East side, best dining side?

When it comes to food, Easties are sure to argue that their side of the sunny island offers the best dining spots — and their claims do not come unjustified. (Westies, feel free to disagree!) Eastern Singapore is home to an abundance of hawker gems, aesthetic cafés and hidden restaurants, just waiting to be discovered.

Some of the places are probably easier to get to with a car so if you are looking for a fun drive in the East, strap in and follow us along our list of foodie recommendations.

Hub & Spoke Cafe

Perfect for a getaway from the city, this beautiful glasshouse café features a colonial-style monochrome aesthetic and is every café lover’s dream.

It is located along the scenic Changi Airport Connector, surrounded by a sprawling green lawn. Furry parents will be delighted to know that it offers a pet-friendly alfresco that’s great for views and loads of fresh air.

Recommendations include Truffle Crab Roll, Wagyu Beef Burger and Crab Pasta as well as familiar cafe faves like The Big Brekkie and Avocado Toast. If you are looking for some local flavours, Hub & Spoke Cafe also serves Singaporean favourites like Nasi Lemak with Chicken, Mee Rebus Java and more. Varieties of kopi, teh and traditional local toast like kaya butter toast can be found on the menu too!

Like they say, come for the vibes, stay for the bites. Bonus: Airport staff get 10% off on all menu items.

The Coastal Settlement

Big on maximalist antique, the gorgeous establishment is a casual dining restaurant, café and bar all rolled into one. It is decorated with retro memorabilia, paintings, vintage vehicles, nostalgic gadgets and antique furniture and its space itself carries historic significance as it was once used by the Royal Air Force as a fault control and telephone exchange, operated by the 19 Signal Regimen.

The Coastal Settlement’s menu incorporates western and eastern flavours, with an emphasis on local tastes. Notable dishes include the Seafood Mala Pot and Grilled Jumbo Prawns (served with their signature sambal sauce or miso butter). Make sure to leave space for their unique desserts and cocktails too.
