There is pre-owned … and there is Certified Pre-owned.
You would have come across this term “certified pre-owned” when looking to buy a used car. What does it mean? How is buying a certified pre-owned car different from getting the usual pre-owned ones?
Many people buy pre-owned cars as they do not have to pay as much compared to a new vehicle. There is also less depreciation and lower insurance costs. However, some drivers do worry about things such as reliability, service and accident history, and maintenance costs with a pre-owned car.

Rigorous checks for reliability
Certified pre-owned cars are also used cars. The difference is they have gone through an extensive inspection process to be certified.
A Certified Pre-owned BMW – offered under the BMW Premium Selection (BPS) Programme – is at most five years old and has a maximum mileage of 120,000km.
The BPS car will have to go through a rigorous 360° inspection of its exterior and interior by BMW tech specialists. The comprehensive checklist includes the replacement of non-approved safety-related components with genuine BMW parts. All the electronic features, including the iDrive system, are tested to make sure they function properly.
Only cars that meet all of BMW’s defined product standards are certified.
Less worry with 12 months’ warranty
A Certified Pre-owned BMW comes with at least 12 months’ warranty. This gives extended protection to the buyer even after the end of the original new-car warranty.
The BPS warranty covers major electronic and mechanical parts of the car, which include the air conditioning, steering, and transmission. However, it is NOT an extension of the original warranty. For example, it does not include wear and tear parts, such as brake pads, spark plugs and shock absorbers.
24×7 Roadside Assistance
In the event of a breakdown, a Certified Pre-owned BMW owner can reach out for round-the-clock BMW Roadside Assistance. It covers the basics such as battery jump-starts and tire changes, as well as towing to the nearest authorised BMW dealer when necessary.
