Don’t even have to be Valentine’s Day.
Whether you are looking to escape the (commercial) hustle and bustle of the Valentine’s Day crowd, or just keen to find a quiet and chill place to hang out with your date, we have the answer for you. Here are a few spots for a romantic getaway – especially perfect if you drive since most of them are in pretty ulu locations all over the island!
Catch that setting sun or gaze at the stars
There are many places where you can watch the sunset, but we are going to bat with this one – Yishun Dam.
Yes, yes, we know Yishun gets a lot of riffing from SG folks for seemingly bizarre happenings. But Yishun Dam does offer one of the most peaceful areas to catch the gorgeous rays of the sunset against the northern sea. You won’t find the usual crowds at this far-flung corner of Singapore which is best accessible by car.
And if your (deep) conversation with your date continues deep into the night, Yishun Dam happens to be fantastic for a spot of stargazing as well. It’s open 24 hours by the way. It’s a good excuse to snuggle up with bae as the place gets quite chilly at night. Our tip: Pack some chilled drinks, food and a warm blanket in the car boot for a romantic picnic away from the maddening crowd, we say. Also insect repellent is useful if you’re not planning to get unwanted “love” bites.
PS: If your paktor has taken all night (ahem), you can head over to nearby Lower Seletar Reservoir Park to catch a spectacular view of the sunrise.
Address: Yishun Ave 1, Singapore 769130
Getting there by car: From Seletar Aerospace Drive, keep left onto Seletar West Link. Turn left into Yishun Ave 1.
Parking: Free onsite parking

Go high to Mount Faber
Ok, Mount Faber is not that high but provides a lovely drive up to its peak. Enjoy taking quiet turns on the fairly winding road, where you will be greeted by an abundance of flora and fauna.
At the top, park your car (free public parking lots!) and soak in the view from Singapore’s second highest hill. Peak through the telescopes located at various lookout points, and get a closer look at our southern islands, including Sentosa and Keppel Island.
You can also choose to have a drink or meal at one of the restaurants at the peak, and continue to enjoy the serene scenes of cable cars coming and going as well as of the ubiquitous ships anchored in the distance. If you are inclined to splurge for more alone time with your date, there is cable car dining where you can wine and dine in a private cable car cabin.
Address: 109 Mount Faber Road Singapore 099203
Getting there by car: Turn into Mount Faber Road from Lower Delta Road or Kampong Bahru Road. Head straight up to Mount Faber Peak.
Parking: Free public parking lots available
On the waterfront
If heights are not your thing, how about the waterfront? Tucked away in the southernmost tip of Singapore, the Keppel Bay Marina is one of the best waterfront dating spots that don’t involve crazy crowds like those along Marina Bay.
Not only does the quiet waterfront offer picturesque views of luxury yachts against the backdrop of the Reflections at Keppel Bay, it also comes with easy access to a whole range of dining options on Keppel Island.
Want to avoid the dining crowd altogether? There’s a large lawn area perfect for setting up your very own picnic overlooking the Singapore Straits.
Address: 2 Keppel Bay Vista, Singapore 098382
Getting there by car: Drive along Telok Blangah Road. Turn into Keppel Bay Drive. Drive across Keppel Bay Bridge.
Parking: Public carpark available
Try a bit of plane-spotting
There’s something about watching planes take off and land over an airfield that just feels innately romantic, isn’t it? If the idea of squeezing through throngs of tourists at Changi Airport doesn’t feel all that appealing to you, not to worry. There’s another hidden spot where you can enjoy plane spotting in peace and quiet.
Over at Seletar Aerospace Park, there’s a tranquil little enclave that is home to a select group of alfresco dining spots, dreamy cafes, heritage colonial houses, and even a nature wetlands park to indulge in a romantic evening stroll.
Tip: The best vantage point to plane watch in our opinion? The boardwalk at The Oval.
Address: The Oval @ Seletar Aerospace Park, Singapore 797863
Getting there by car: Exit CTE Exit 1. Turn into Seletar Aerospace Way. Turn in Park Lane. Turn into Hyde Park Gate. Arrive at the Oval.
Parking: Public carpark within The Oval

Getting there by car: Exit 22 From PIE. Continue on Eng Neo Ave. Turn into Vanda Link. Turn into Turf Club Road.

Potter over to the far west
Planning to enjoy an interactive yet artsy date for two where you can DIY some memorabilia to commemorate your time together? Why not check out Singapore’s oldest pottery house – Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle – located in the west of Singapore?
From exploring their huge collection of wares, to learning about the heritage of Singapore’s oldest surviving dragon kiln, and indulging in a pottery session where you can have a go on the potter’s wheel à la the romantic scene from Ghost, there’s plenty to do there!
What’s more, there’s a nearby quiet and idyllic garden, Jurong Eco-Garden, where you can head over for a romantic picnic date after.
Address: 85 Lorong Tawas, Singapore 639823
Getting there by car: Exit from PIE onto Jalan Bahar. Turn onto Nanyang Ave. Turn onto CleanTech View followed by CleanTech Loop. Drive all the way straight until there’s a right turn. Go down the slope.

Ohmmmm … Onsen and spa treat
Prefer a relaxing and indulgent day out with your partner? A soothing soak at the onsen would be right up your alley. And for a change in scenery, you can find a tranquil onsen in, of all places, Jurong.
At Joya Onsen Café, adventurous couples can opt for the public onsens (which are gender separated) to indulge separately before reuniting again for your post-soak meal. Or upgrade to a private onsen for all the privacy you seek.
Tip: There are nearby eateries like Surrey Hills Grocer and Tung Lok Seafood just a stone’s throw away if you prefer to indulge in non-Japanese cuisine after your soak.
Address: 511 Upper Jurong Road, S638366
Getting there by car: Exit 18 from AYE. Turn onto Pioneer Road North. Turn onto International Road followed by Upper Jurong Road.
Parking: Available parking onsite

Have a great car date
There are plenty of quiet places in Singapore for a romantic date. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful park, a scenic drive, or a quiet beach, do a bit of research and you’ll find something that makes you and bae happy. Usually the more tranquil spots are hard to get to without a car. If you don’t own one, maybe consider renting a car instead. Enjoy the ride and have a great date!
